Here is a useful tip on your survival.

To make a fishing tackle you need

• a hook
  
• and a line.
  

Once you have those you can make a fishing tackle

I went to a fishing hut on the big lake to go fishing.

I used a knife to break the ice

once I broke the ice i went fishing for one hour. Im not to sure how rare it is to catch a fish but I caught one!

Survival guide to The Long Dark.

• you spawn in a cabin. first check the wall to your right. there will either be a gun or not.
• after you have checked for a gun start looting the cabin taking everything there is in the cabin. There is no need to brake down any boxes in the house. 
• After taking everything the cabin leave the cabin and head to the nearest little building just ahead.
  
• After seeing whats in that little building you need to head left or right. Im not experienced with the game enough yet to know which way is better.
• You will probably run into wolves and bears along the way

• after walking for a bit you will find railroad tracks. As you can see I was attacked by a wolf as i found the railroad tracks. LIKE I SAID TRY AND AVOID WOLVES AND BEARS

• follow the railroad tracks until you eventually... hopefully... find the lake with all the cabins on it and the main cabin.
  
• by this time you will probably need to eat, and drink. so dont forget if you need to eat and drink use the supplies you get from all the cabins on the lake and the first cabin. It might be the night by now also so go to a cabin that has a bed and sleep until morning. 
• once morning comes you need to try and find the mountain where you get the pistol and shoot the flair. I have not gotten to this point yet so I cannot lead you on. you need to remember your necessity's. Good Luck

Question 1:  the challenge.

I was unable to make portable water. I did find a fishing hole so if I find anything to put the water in I can get the water from that fishing hole. I ended up finding the hunters blind after a long walk.

I continued on needing to drink and eat after getting food from the first cabin. I went over hills and followed some train tracks and ended up finding the lake with the big cabin on it.

I ventured across the lake and found a fishing hut. In one of the fishing huts I found a fishing hole. a frozen one but a fishing hole. Im not to sure how to make he hole not frozen yet but i will soon.

before I found the lake I walked through the forest a bit and found a frozen corpse. 

after I searched everything on the lake I was getting extremely tired. I needed to sleep for the first time. I went into the main cabin on the lake and slept for 3 hours. I woke up and the whole cabin was pitch black. after about 10 minutes of trying just to get down the stairs I found the furnace. I was freezing cold at this moment and managed to turn on the furnace to warm up. 

my survival tips are:

• Make sure to be aware of your temperature, fatigue, and water.

Today in the game I collected all I could in the cabin I started in. I learnt there was a work bench to craft things also in the cabin I started in. I set on an adventure and left the cabin. I found a rifle in the cabin and used it to kill a dear. I eventually died of hypothermia. I still dont really know anything about the game except you have to get the pistol and shoot it on a mountain. Below you can see my current keybindings. I changed the backpack button from "I" to "TAB" that was a very good tip because its so much easier to open the inventory that way.

I also figured out that i can see where ive been in a option
